Miami Youth Garden, Inc. afterschool enrichment programs incorporate the basic tenets of Montessori: the creation of a safe, respectful atmosphere where students are encouraged to explore and grow at their own pace while respecting themselves, others, and the environment. The afterschool sessions will run at a 1:15 teacher/student ratio.  Students will be recruited primarily from the summer program roster and the youth ministries of Faith Community Baptist Church, Bethel Apostolic Temple, Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Christian Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, and Greater New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.  In alignment with our student employment initiatives and peer-to-peer learning goals, teachers’ aides and other staff members will be recruited from the local high schools and colleges. The weekly schedule will primarily include: (1)Homework/Tutoring Assistance; (2)Math, Reading Comprehension, and Writing Enrichment; (3)Seed-to-Harvest Leadership Training; and (4)Working in and Maintaining on-site Gardens.
